Indigenous Literacy Day 2019

September 4th was Indigenous Literacy Day. This day is a national celebration of Indigenous culture, stories, language and literacy. The purpose of the day is to raise literacy levels, especially for students in remote communities. The Indigenous Literacy Foundation work in over 280 remote communities and their programs focus on creating a strong relationship with reading from an early age.

Jake (ACEO) and Shona (AET) read some stories in classes that generated some great discussions for students.

Some of the other activities that people participated in were Book Swaps and raising money to supply quality books for children in their traditional language to develop early literacy skills. You can find out more information at the link below:
