An aquatics blog written by students in Year 6 with Shannon Clarke (19-1)

On the 8th of March it was a nice hot sunny day perfect for the year 5/6 Aquatics and Water Safety excursion.

First we all walked along the path to the beautiful Port Noarlunga beach. When we got there we arranged into our groups ready for an amazing day! After struggling with putting on wetsuits we were all set to go.

Year 6 students had the option of:

  • Snorkelling
  • Surfing
  • Stand-up paddle boarding
  • Bodyboarding
  • Kayaking

The Year 6s got to choose 3 of the above activities that they wanted to do most and were put into groups with other kids who wanted to learn teh same skills.

While snorkelling we saw many species of fish and even saw a number of squid. We also saw an old anchor at the bottom of the ocean at the reef, many people swam down and touched it. We also saw many different underwater species such as sea urchin, starfish, and coral!

“I did snorkelling, surfing and kayaking. I really enjoyed surfing, it was really fun because it was my first time and there was decent swell at Southport.”

Ollie, Year 6 from Mrs Clarkes class

“I did boogie boarding, surfing, games and water play, it was really fun.

Alba, Year 5 from Mrs Clarkes class

“I really enjoyed kayaking. We walked down to the river and put on ‘glove’ shoes and a life jacket. It was fun and easy to paddle. A few of us even fell in!”

Mason, Year 6

The instructors were lovely and helped us throughout the day. We had a blast and the year 5s look forward to returning next year.

Thanks for reading our aquatics blog!
