Port Noarlunga Primary School work alongside The Smith Family to help young Australians in need to build better futures through education. The school works with The Smith Family to provide opportunities to access everyday needs for education with the Learning for Life Scholarship and the Student2Student reading program to support children with their literacy.
The Smith Family: Learning for Life Education Scholarship
This scholarship gives families and students the opportunity to access everyday needs for education reducing financial difficulty and support the whole family to achieve. To be eligible for the scholarship:
- Your child needs to attend one of the participating schools (Reynella South School)
- Caregivers must have a current pension concession or health care card
- Caregivers demonstrate a strong commitment to education
Families who are meet the eligibility criteria can receive payments from $478 per year, per student to help with costs for their child’s education expenses such as uniforms, shoes, stationary, backpacks, excursions and camps, etc.
If you meet the criteria and would like to receive the scholarship, please speak to the front office or Wellbeing Leader (Caitlin) for a referral form.
Student2student
The aim of the student2student (s2s) program is to improve students reading ability, which in turn increases their confidence and their ability to cope with and understand everyday school activities.
S2S in a nutshell:
- 18 week program – free – supported by The Smith Family LfL or partner school students can participate
- A reader who needs to improve at reading is matched with a high school buddy (trained and has WWCC).
- Reading happens 2-3 times a week through a safe program (Chatty Kids) where they read from digital books and only hear each other.
- Parent/caregiver is trained in how to support their child
- Reading confidence, skills and interest shown to improve dramatically.
