As many of our classroom and specialist teachers are (or are soon to be) parents, we wanted to share some of the sources that we mine information, ideas and strategies from that help us both in our own parenting journey as well as in the classroom.
For the next month or so, each week a podcast will be posted that some of us have been listening to and finding interesting, inspiring, and sometimes incredibly challenging. I’m sure many of us would relate to parenting being a daunting, exciting, challenging and rewarding role and these are some of the ways that the staff at Porties have found to encourage and support us along the way.
We hope you enjoy!
Pop Culture Parenting
Combining researched-based child development and parenting information with a twist of 80’s and 90’s nostalgia, this is a fun and interesting podcast that uses film scenes to highlight strategies we might use when raising children.
Dr. Billy Garvey is a developmental paediatrician who, along with friend Nick McCormack, discuss the trials and tribulations of all that makes up the world of parenting. They discuss time out (Home Alone), fussy eaters (Hook), empathy (E.T) and resilience (Good Will Hunting) all while celebrating the ups and downs of their favourite movie characters and their own parenting and professional experiences. A really good listen!
