Principal’s Update – Term 2, Week 1, 2021

Apr 30, 2021 | principal's update, school info

Welcome to Term 2

Dear all,

Yesterday I spent some time in the yard at lunch time and walked away with pride and contentment after seeing the way the students were interacting with each other and the staff. There were students of all ages playing chasey across the school, students of all ages playing Yahtzee (a handstand game), some students were singing, others were playing but the overarching feel was one of calm and happiness. Then the siren went and they ran back to class, no dawdling, no avoiding learning – they all ran!

This is what we want to see – a balance of fun and learning. We have students putting together podcasts, planning market stalls and small business ventures, increasing their reading levels, writing multiple genres with success, improving their reasoning skills in maths etc, etc, etc.

Our Robotics Squad continue to come in early to school once a week to build their skills and expertise.

Today we have students competing in the District Cross Country event, last term we had sensational swimmers, legendary lawn bowlers, super surfers and vivacious volleyballers.

Our Junior and Senior choirs have been singing up a storm while our strings’ students are sounding more melodious by the minute.

Our Culture group has been working on building identity and they will be presenting at an upcoming Partnership meeting. Today we are meeting with a mural artist who we hope to engage in developing a mural outside the computer room.

Our student leaders, Young Leaders, Junior Young Leaders and House Captains, continue to build their leadership capabilities and can be called upon to step up and help in the yard and in class.

Our facilities grant is slowly being allocated towards key areas in the school and we will start on the redevelopment of the Nature Play space this term.

Our Library upgrade continues in earnest with one panel of the mural completed, the shade sail ordered and the chairs assembled at our last staff meeting. This term we will get our new shelving and desks which will make a huge difference.

I’d like to thank our students, families and staff members for their efforts in making our school what it is and continuing in their efforts to improve our learning and environment.

Marie Wright,
Principal
