On Friday 11th September, a sea of bleu, blanc et rouge descended on Port Noarlunga Primary School to celebrate our annual French Fun Day. Not only were students and staff dressed in the French colours, we also had many dressed as French characters. Among the many French artists, sporting characters and chefs, you may have noticed Marie Antoinette and two of the three musketeers. Teachers were also very pleased with the many mime artists, who like Ms Scott, had to use their actions to communicate rather than their words. Prizes were awarded to the 2 best dressed students in each class on the day.
Everyone tried to use as much French as possible during the day starting with saying “Bonjour” to answer the roll in the morning. Ms Orrin’s class borrowed my real French crêpe maker and made crêpes as part of their procedural writing while Mr Woolford used French words for his PE sessions. Many students enjoyed the special lunch of croissants, yaourt et jus catered by the canteen, while some brought their own French style food to eat.
The real fun happened between recess and lunch time when classes worked with their buddies on some fun French activities. Ms Gregory’s Year 5/6 students helped Mrs Gwatking’s Receptions to make little books in French to take home. Mr Josh’s Receptions joined Ms Clark’s Year 2/3s and Ms Sander’s Year 4/5s to make puppets of cartoon character Obélix and paint like Monet. Mrs McMillan’s Year 3/4 students helped Ms Emily’s Receptions to create French objects from playdough, make their own jigsaw puzzles and do some French knitting. Ms Eldridge’s Year 6/7 students taught Mrs Ehlers’ Year 1/2 students to play French cricket. Mrs Smale’s Year 4/5 students did Monet art and French knitting with Ms Cross’ Year 1/2s. Ms Alana’s Year 1/2 students and Ms Thompson’s Year 3/4s made edible Eiffel Towers, created their own self-portraits and participated in Jacqui’s photo booth. Ms Orrin’s Year 2/3 students and Mr Wakefield’s Year 6/7s worked with Vivonne to create some impressionist masterpieces of their own. Ms Kim’s Year 3/4 students worked with Mr Letcher’s Year 5/6s to create sunflower collages, play pétanque and a number of games with Mr Woolford.
