Term 3 Health with Years 1/2/3

One of this term’s main areas is looking at what an advertisement is and finding health messages and slogans. Finding advertisements in print was tricky, even in brochures the difference between a recipe and an ad wasn’t obvious to students.  Many had favourite and less enjoyed TV ads but not all students watch a lot of free to air television. It seems online games also have quite a lot of advertising built in.

We started with a health slogan that most students knew “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” and the similar “An apple a day keeps the dentist away”.

Some of you will remember the Life. Be In It health campaign which ran from the mid 1970’s featuring Norm and Libby.  We enjoyed the cartoons, video clips and songs that went with that. Coming up with our own ideas for this campaign saw mums on trampolines, babies weightlifting, and whole families as a soccer team.

We have been making our own ads for healthy foods and will end the topic by creating our own positive health messages and putting our posters for these around the school.

I also shared the “Not Happy Jan” ad campaign and the resultant fun teasing I got…will it ever end!
