The Close the Gap Campaign began in 2007 and aims to close the health and life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians within a generation.
Closing the Gap Day helps promote and connect people with businesses and organisations that can support everyone achieve more positive health outcomes.
On Thursday 21st March our school, along with many other schools across South Australia, had the opportunity to attend Closing the Gap Day at the Adelaide Showgrounds. We were fortunate enough to take all 14 of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) students to the event.
We travelled by bus with students and teachers from Southport Primary, Christies Beach Primary, and Moana Primary. The day was fantastically organised and showcased a vast variety of experiences for the students and adults to be a part of. It was great to see our students mixing with others from other local schools.
The day started with an amazing Welcome to Country ceremony followed by many First Nation performers providing many cultural dances and conversations. Our students were in awe at the opportunity to meet some local sporting icons from numerous sports, along with the sporting workshops and kids activities offered throughout the day.
A big thankyou to all the volunteers and staff who attended on the day. We recognise that special opportunities for our students would not be possible without your ongoing support.
