Outdoor Education Day for the Deck Team

Oct 23, 2023 | class story

Mrs Alana Years 1/2  Miss Bianca Years 2/3  Miss Butcher Years 1/2  Mrs Ehlers Years 1/2

Mrs Alana, Miss Bianca, Miss Butcher, Mrs Ehlers and classes had a BIG and BRILLIANT day out at the Nature Play SA cubby building site near the Karka Pavilion in Belair National Park on Friday, October 20.

We had 4 hours of outdoor creating and critical thinking, building and problem solving with an emphasis on leadership and communication.

We also had the best possible weather and location.

It was an exciting adventure!

We were introduced to the ethical guidelines for the National Park before beginning our activities. Throughout the day we made connections with indigenous language and mindfulness.

Our first challenge was to create mini cubbies suitable for the local bandicoot population and then we transferred those skills into constructing our own large scale cubbies in teams by using natural elements plus provided loose-part resources.

Everyone was rewarded with time to eat lunch and relax in the cubbies with plenty of visiting and enjoying neighbouring cubby creations.

We left without a trace and took with us an appreciation of the natural world and place-making.

Thank you to the many volunteers for spending the day with us; your energy and care greatly appreciated.

Nature Play SA would like all families to know that all visitors to the park are welcome to access the many sticks and branches that are located at their session site. Arrive, create and play and then leave them for the next visitors to enjoy.
