2019 Book Week celebrations

Aug 22, 2019 | school events

Staff & Students celebrate 2019 Book Week with dress-up-day, whole-school Assembly, and classroom activities.

During Week 5 this term we have been celebrating Book Week. We hold celebrations in Australian schools to acknowledge the success of our Australian authors and illustrators who have published books for children over the last 12 months. The Children’s Book Council of Australia puts out a list of children’s books that compete for awards. We usually purchase the most suitable books for the library and read them to the children. Teachers read some of them and complete activities on the stories.

At Port Noarlunga Primary we have competitions for the children to enter, a dress up Assembly where students and teachers can win prizes and we usually hold a Book Fair. The library staff are very grateful to Parents, Carers and Students who purchase from the Fair as the sales give us points which we can then use for resources for the children. This year it was great to see lots of entries to our competitions with students putting in lots of effort.  It was also fantastic to see all the effort put into the many costumes that were paraded at the assembly.
